Our read
1,650 minutes and 30.6 percent of the season, and the important part is that most of it came while Neuer was fit. Those were not emergency appearances. He is calm on his line, accurate enough in build-up to be trusted with it, and the supporters worked that out before the minutes did. His contract runs to 2029, so this season has a simple measure: does his share grow on merit, or only when the man ahead of him is unavailable?

From 2027/28, Jonas Urbig will be the clear number 1. It has already been discussed with Neuer that this season would be used to further prepare Urbig for his succession. The plan was discussed between Dreesen, Eberl, Freund and Neuer before the latter's contract extension in May. Neuer does not want to block Urbig's development and will give up games for him this season. Dreesen also told Neuer that the club's doors will be open for him after his retirement to take over a different role

Bayern's plan for Jonas Urbig this season is not only to replace Neuer when the latter is injured or needs a break, but also to feature in important matches so he can get used to the pressure of being the club's future number one. Neuer is not opposed to that and will support Urbig
